If you could go back five years and tell yourself something, what would it be? And I’m not talking about investing in crypto or any get-rich cheats, I’m talking about advice that would make those five years worth it.
For the last five years, I’ve been working towards one goal - to own a successful game company that makes games people love. As I approach 2025, I’m excited to see the fruits of my labor. Our game, HAX, is about to release, and already people love it. But what about the past five years?
As I reflect, the time spent on developing HAX, I realize I’ve been living my dream. Sure, I don’t have the money to show for it, but well over half a million people have played my game.
If I could tell Davy in 2020 that half a million people would play HAX, and only the demo of HAX, and love it, it would mean the absolute world to me. And it does. It does mean the world to me. I’m imagining ten NFL-sized football stadiums filled with people laughing and enjoying themselves. Amazing.
Honestly, if I had known that HAX would take five years to make, I would not have made it. I’m glad now that I stuck with it, but I’m humbled by the fact that I could not have done it without the people around me. Their belief in me has been unwavering, and it has sustained me.
If I could go back five years, I'd tell myself to truly believe the people around me when they said they were proud of me, that they thought my work was amazing, that HAX really was something special.
Making games is hard, making VR games is harder, and making multiplayer VR games is stupid - but it’s fun.
The next five years are gonna be stupid fun.
Davy
P.S. Technically, it'll be five years in April 2025, but who's counting?
